The Otter Story Begins
Nature inspires our family to create furniture which tells a story. There is no better gift to humans than the enjoyment of nature, in our opinion. So, seeing an otter in the pond behind our Adirondack workshop was all it took to get our wheels turning.
“Its called Adirondack style furniture, but its actually Adirondack art disguised as furniture”, wrote one of our customers in a review. Selling art for arts sake is not as easy as selling art that can also be functional. If our furniture can inspire an appreciation of nature, and an enjoyment of art, and function as a server, well… who could ask for anything more?

Creating The Furniture Design
The otter seed was planted and then we drew a quick sketch of a furniture shape that would offer us plenty of opportunity for Jillian’s carving. Ryan got to work enhancing and planning. Having just completed carved “trees” which became part of the pub bar at The Point, we decided it would be fun to use that same design element.

Planning For Success
Although Ryan makes the building look easy, he meticulously plans for every detail. Jillian’s carvings must be integrated flawlessly into the design. The final outcome should be a well thought out, perfectly blended art furniture piece.

A Successful Outcome
We were pleased with the final outcome. There were elements which needed some alterations, even though we thought we had planned for just about everything. Since this piece is unique to us–never to be reproduced again–we needed the necessary time to figure it out. All of that energy from our family into this one piece. One in the entire world.
