These rich copper and turquoise colors provide a landscape to honor the Tarahumara (Raramuri) people of middle Mexico. The artwork is of a color palette that reflects the sun baked region and rich valleys. Living in the Copper Canyon region of the rugged Sierra Madre mountains, the tribe is deeply connected to family and a proud, quiet people. The Raramuri are known worldwide for their long distance running ability.
Over 30,000 individual cuts, burns and dyed cells are executed to create this work of art. May be displayed as a tabletop centerpiece, standing up by using an easel, or may be wall hung. The artist honors the storytelling and imagery of the Maya, Aztec, Zapotec, and Olmec, among others, as the Meso-america Series evolves.
